Walks the Tightrope of Somalian-Libyan Relationship

Somalia and Libya signed a series of agreements to bolster their cooperation, following the trip by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the President of Somalia, to Tripoli. The agreements include cooperation on municipal development and civil governance between Mogadishu and Tripoli.

There was no restriction on travel among the two nations; citizens of Somalia and Libya can travel freely and require no visas. Moreover, foreign ministers from both countries will consult regularly among themselves in order to further enhance diplomatic relations.

while Libya strives for stability after political stagnation, Somalia looks forward to its economic cooperation, particularly to year’s end in agricultural projects. The two countries also move to set up a joint committee to go through pre-existing agreements and harmonize their interests in regard to regional security and stability in the Horn of Africa.

In response, Libya has agreed to release any Somali prisoners in custody so that they may be repatriated to Somalia. This is an enormous step forward in the bilateral relationship between the nations as they each endeavor to further this cooperation and overcome any strains from their past.
