Very Rare Event Until 2040: The Alignment of Planets in the Sky

This week promises to be interesting for many astronomers as the seven planets—Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Mercury, and Saturn—are expected to appear together for a brief period in the evening skies.

This is a planetary parade that wouldn’t repeat many times in 2040-the last one sighted before it will be on this occasion. The alignment gives a really special chance to see numerous planets in one gaze and is undoubtedly not going to be witnessed once again for several years to come.

Their best chance of being seen will be during the evenings of Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday after sunset. Four planets-Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars-will not require especial equipment for naked eye viewing. Saturn will be more difficult to spot as it will remain lower in the sky at dawn. Uranus and Neptune will require some sort of telescope if you want to see them with the naked eye.

According to experts, it is also advisable to go somewhere clear of clouds and light pollution. “It’s extremely rare to see all seven planets together,” Dr. Edward Bloomer, an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, commented. “You’d have a tough time finding such a chance soon again.”

Saturn will set just behind Mercury as dusk fades, taking most of the brilliance out of it. However, Venus, Jupiter, and Mars will be evident for a longer time.

Dr. Bloomer goes on with his suggestions and emphasizes that if you do want to see all seven planets at once, then look for something that has views of the dawn and twilight. Avoid spots very contaminated with light, and don’t use your mobile phones while viewing the planets.

“Don’t get distracted from your phone. Stay focused. Instead, look for a place where nothing interferes with your line of sight toward the sky,” Dr. Bloomer adds.

Indeed, it is going to be a history, a nostalgic experience on this incredible planetary alignment for the stargazers. Don’t miss this opportunity to watch this rare celestial eve!
