Climate Change and Its Alarming Impacts

Climate change is today’s biggest threat to mankind, mostly caused by burning fossil fuel and deforestation. Due to soaring global temperatures, glaciers are melting and causing a relentless rise in sea levels, threatening coastal communities all over the world. The number of disruptive weather phenomena, such as hurricanes, wildfires, and droughts, is on the rise, with those events tending to become even more destructive.

In the international arena, various initiatives are underway for curbing climate change, one such being the Paris Accord, an agreement emphasizing that nations must arrest the global temperature rise to not more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Countries are transitioning towards the use of renewable energy sources, like solar and wind, in order to reduce carbon emissions. However, the shift is not as rapid as one would hope since it is mostly delayed due to economic and political challenges.

The fight against climate change requires urgent action at all levels. Individuals could contribute by switching to a sustainable lifestyle, reducing energy use, and supporting green initiatives. Unless collective responsibility is accepted and an effort is made toward it, climate change could wreak havoc in the long run, causing untold suffering for the planet as well as mankind.
