Surviving Amid Ruins at the Center of Hezbollah-Israel Conflict: The Story of Mohammad and His Search for Nasrallah

In the recent conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, Lebanese towns lay in ruins due to Israeli attacks, with many people fearing for their survival, including their loved ones. One of them was a Hezbollah fighter named Mohammad Daher from Kfar Kila. After spending months in hiding underground, he emerged alive from his family’s house after it had been leveled to the ground.

His members of the family were left completely in astonishment and disbelief amidst the general mood of mourning swept over Kfar Kila, which had turned into a microcosm of destruction and death looming over southern Lebanon, as Mohammad stayed alive in his underground hideout while other took to fleeing with their lives in hands.

What struck Mohammad the most when he reemerged from the destruction was, “Tell me about the Sayyid,” referring to the leader of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, whom he thought had perished in great conflict. The question revealed how secluded and out of sync many fighters felt while under the bombs amid complete seclusion from outside contacts.

The tale of Mohammad’s escape has captivated many, a symbol of resilience and humanness amidst overwhelming disasters of war.
