Somali President Visits Key Facilities in Azerbaijan’s Capital, Baku

A third of the delegation visits installations linked to energy, defense, and development of public service.
The President paid a visit to BP Sangachal Terminal, one of the biggest in the world concerned with oil extraction and natural gas processing. This visit comes on the heels of the signing of a cooperation agreement regarding oil and energy issues between Somalia and Azerbaijan.

At the facility, technical experts briefed President Hassan Sheikh on the existence of the terminal and its function in securing energy for the region and beyond. He said that this visit was a promising opportunity for knowledge transfer; Somalia is currently undergoing an oil exploration survey which ought to close by the end of this year.

H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also visited the National Commando Forces Headquarters of Azerbaijan. While there, he was received by the defense minister of Azerbaijan, H.E. Zakir Hasanov. During the visit, he was shown modern military hardware produced in-country in Azerbaijan.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also visited the ASAN Service Center-a modern public service centre in Azerbaijan. He commended the government of Azerbaijan for its sophisticated digital governance system and stated that Somalia could benefit immensely from this experience to enhance its enduring e-Governance initiatives.

This visit is a step in the overall direction of Somalia to further consolidate its international alliances and acquire new skills in its developmental ventures and enhancement of public service.
