FC Barcelona have officially announced that young defender Pau Cubarsí has extended his contract with the club until June 30, 2029. The renewal was agreed in May 2024, which said that the day Cubarsí turned 18, on January 22, 2025, two additional years would be added to his contract-hence, until 2029.
Cubarsí moved to Barcelona’s youth academy, La Masia, in 2018 from Girona. He made his first-team debut on January 18, 2024, in a Copa del Rey match against Unionistas de Salamanca. Since then, under coach Hansi Flick, he has become a vital player, featuring in 36 games across La Liga, the Champions League, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa. He has played no less than 88% of available minutes this season, forming a formidable defensive partnership with Iñigo Martínez.
As a sign of the club’s belief in his talent and long-term importance, Barcelona has set his release clause at €500 million. The extension consolidates his present standing in the team and demonstrates how quickly he has advanced to being arguably one of the brightest defensive prospects in European football.
